Last week, I was a college leader for a senior retreat back at Cardinal Ritter (my old high school). I’ve had the privilege of doing so three times now, and it really centered me this time. It allowed me to realize why my life has sort of felt off-balance these past few months. Below are some scattered thoughts and reflections that I have about my time there.

  1. I want to continue to be a part of this experience for as long as I live in Indiana.
  2. Fatima, where the retreat takes place, will always hold a special place in my heart.
  3. The structure of the retreat is amazing and has a purpose.
  4. The teachers that volunteer to be a part of this experience for the seniors demonstrate a great deal of courage.
  5. Going to confession and actually having a priest that actively listens/responds can make a huge impact on the way you approach the sacrament.
  6. Everyone has a story. Some people have gone through a lot and you cannot make assumptions based off of the way they act.
  7. Journaling and just letting your mind travel to where it wants is one of the most therapeutic things you can do.
  8. Taking nature walks = happiness.
  9. Heart-to-heart conversations and even conversations that move past small talk are DEFINITELY an excuse to stay up past your bedtime.
  10. I am extremely thankful for my group, The Purple Poppin’ Penguins. You guys mean so much to me.
