interview: fitness guru — emily.

Meet my boss babe friend, Emily! She is killing the fitness game and is totally who you need to follow for some serious inspo! She was one of my bosses while I was a group exercise instructor at IU. I am so lucky to know her as both a mentor and gal pal. Check out her interview below!!

Where are you originally from?

Janesville, WI

Do you have a normal weekly workout routine?

Yes, for sure! I usually work out twice a day – once in the morning and once after work. My workouts vary between CycleBar, Hot Yoga, Barre3, running, and lifting.

What are your go-to healthy snacks?

An apple or banana with peanut butter, mixed vegetables, or white popcorn

How do you find ways to move during a workday?

I am fortunate to have a standing desk at work, so that helps me to remember to stand and move around. I keep infinity bands at my desk as well so I can do glute medius/minimus work while I am standing. I take the stairs any chance I can, and I try to leave enough time to walk to my meetings around campus when I can.

Have you tried any food/grocery subscriptions? If so, did you enjoy it?

Yes! I really enjoy HelloFresh. I do think their portions are bigger than what a suggested serving should be, but that just means more leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day.

What is your favorite place to buy workout gear?

I’m a Lululemon addict. I love their sports bras and align leggings for Hot Yoga especially!

What artists are you listening to right now?

I really like Bebe Rexha – she has so many good songs out right now. O.A.R. is an all-time favorite of mine too.

What activity do you look forward to on the weekends?

Relaxing and catching up on things around my apartment – I feel so accomplished when I can sit down at the end of the day and feel like I got everything checked off my “to do” list.

What advice do you have for those wanting to try out a half or full marathon for the first time?

The journey of 1,000 miles begins with one step – same with half or full marathon training! You just have to begin. Begin slow. It’s okay to walk if you need to. Remember to cross-train (yoga or stretching and strength training).

Who are your biggest supporters?

I can always count on my best friends and my parenst to support me in my endeavors – fitness-related or not.

Name your favorite season and why.

SUMMER! I love being outside! I enjoy how many things there are to do during the summer. The sunshine just makes me so happy.

When was a time that you experienced personal defeat/failure/hardship and how did you recover from it?

Being completely honest, dating has been the key source of personal defeat most recently. I just continue to stay true to myself and not allow loneliness to lower my standards.

Thoughts on Ariana’s new single “7 Rings?”

If the lyrics were “You like my hair, gee thanks, I washed it”, it might be about me. 😉

What are your favorite fitness Insta accounts?

@kirastokesfit @popsugarfitness @yoga_girl – there’s so many!

What is your Starbucks order?

Caramel Americano – hot during the winter, cold during the summer.

What motivates you?

How I feel motivates me – working out makes me feel good, so when I think about how I’ll feel after, it’s easy to get moving. Eating well makes me feel energetic, which motivates me to eat well.
